JESSICA HALLBÄCK

Writer, artist & creative, Malmö

Hi Jessica, nice to have you with us!
Please tell us a little bit about yourself; where did you grow up, where are you based now and what do you do for a living?

I grew up in different parts of Sweden but lived most of my life in Stockholm. Since 2.5 years I live in Malmö and feel like I finally found the right place! I work as a creative, writer and artist.

Have you always been making art and illustrations or is there a special moment when you decided to give it a go?

I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. I’ve always had a sketch pad and a pen next to me in all workplaces and classes. But it wasn’t until 2017 that I decided to try and do it full-time and I have been working with my own ever since.

You used to live in Stockholm – what’s the biggest difference with living in Malmö?

The people! I think it’s much easier to get to know people in Malmö, they’re more humble, open and curious here. In addition to that, people chat more in the elevator and on the streets. And they don’t complain about the weather so much!

The proximity to everything is also a big difference which is wonderful when you have children. In Stockholm we spent far too much time riding the subway. It’s also much cheaper to live in Malmö.

Share your 3 favorite spots in Malmö (could be anything – café, park, museum etc!)

  • Folkets park!

  • Our apartment located at ”Triangeln”

  • Dehli – an Indian restaurant where we are regulars. They have amazing food and take good care of their guests, including screaming children.

You also have a very beautiful home which you post about on your account @hemmahosjessicahallback . How would you describe your home with three words?

Eclectic – I love mixing styles

Classic – I try to get things that last a long time

Homely – I want everyone to feel comfortable. For example we have plenty of seating and the pantry is always well stocked.

What inspires your interior/home style?

I find alot of inspiration on Instagram and save a lot from there. But I’m also very inspired by color and color combinations. I like when you manage to use a lot of color without it looking like a circus.

What's your favorite piece from the Henry Rude collection and why? (it could be something you own, or just something you see in the webshop)

I love my Leopard Strap Bag! I was checking it out for a long time and finally became a happy owner two years ago. It’s a classic that stand the test of time. Leopard print never gets boring and goes with everything.

What song are you currently listening to on repeat?

Kanye West - Good Morning (I even have it as an alarm clock tune, although the alarm clock rarely rings before the kids wake us up)
